DAB&PLAY is a web-based audio interface designed as a brutalist counter-measure to the “soft” aesthetics of modern streaming. It functions as a secure wrapper for the YouTube Data API, stripping away algorithms and ads to give the user a raw, high-fidelity terminal for manual playlist construction.
UI/UX Design Analysis
The interface is built on a Digital Brutalist framework, prioritizing raw functionality and data density over decoration.
Visual Hierarchy: The design uses Syne (Extra Bold) for aggressive, expansionist headers, contrasted by Menlo (Monospace) for data and controls, reinforcing the “hacker terminal” aesthetic.
Color Theory: A high-contrast palette of Deep Black (5/5/5) and Acid Yellow creates a sense of urgency and technical precision, while Magenta accents highlight active states and system overrides.
Interaction Design: The UX mimics a command-line interface. Inputs are treated as “Data Injections,” and the layout utilizes strict modular grids and sharp edges to strip away the friendly “corporate” feel of mainstream apps.
